The United States’ global reputation a break down “substantial drop” in the last year while Germany’s image improved,?reported by a report out Thursday.

The?Nation Brand Index by consumer research firm GfK and?policy?adviser?Simon Anholt assessed 50 nations, measuring their global perception and reputation in six areas: governance, exports, tourism, investment and immigration, culture and heritage, and folks.

While america took the top spot from the index during the past year, that it was edged out this season by Germany, sinking to sixth place.

“Germany, electrical systems towards the USA, enjoys a very balanced image across all six types of the index, with notable improvements in global perception of its culture, governance, and the wonderful,” the report states.

Anholt attributed the United States’ decrease of reputation in part to President Mr . trump, who took office at the outset of this season.

\”The USA\’s fall inside \’governance\’ category signifies that we are witnessing a \’Trump effect,’ following President Trump\’s focused political message of \’America First,\’” Anholt said in the statement. “However, Americans\’ assessment of their country is notably more positive this current year than last.”

France followed Germany in second place,?up from fifth set up 2016. The uk held onto its position in third place, even though report noted the fact that country had?“regained the floor it lost this past year right after the Brexit vote.”

Canada and Japan tied for fourth place.
